About us

Welcome to the website of the Jorvik Gilbert and Sullivan Company, an inclusive theatre company solely dedicated to performing the works of William Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan in the York area.

As an amateur company, we welcome members of all ages and abilities, and pride ourselves on being fully inclusive to everyone. We will not hold auditions for chorus members as we believe anyone who wants to turn up and sing should be able to! Whether you've never sung G&S music before or you're a G&S addict we would love you to come and join us.

Ruddigore, September 2013

We are pleased to give advance notice that our fifth fully-staged Gilbert and Sullivan production, Ruddigore, will be performed at the Joseph Rowntree Theatre from the 19th to the 21st September 2013.

Trial By Jury and Highlights from the Savoy Operas

Jorvik GSC performed a staged performance of Trial by Jury along with a selection of Gilbert and Sullivan favourites at the Joseph Rowntree Theatre on Saturday 6th April 2013.

This spring's production was directed by Lois Cross who directed our production of Princess Ida in 2011, with our stalwart maestro, Matthew Collins, overseeing the music. A great time was had by all; audience, cast, orchestra and crew.

H.M.S. Pinafore 2012

In September 2012 we performed G&S favourite H.M.S. Pinafore at the Joseph Rowntree Theatre to great acclaim.

H.M.S. Pinafore was directed by Kayleigh Oliver and musically directed by Matthew Collins. You can read the review in the York Press here.

Previous productions

Previous fully staged productions have included Princess Ida (2011), The Mikado (2010) and Patience (2009). The company has performed sing-along productions of The Mikado (2012) and The Pirates of Penzance (2011). In addition we have presented numerous concerts, introducing our audience to highlights and favourites from the well-loved G&S operas.
